LUNCH SPRING 2006 UPDATE
WELCOME TO 2006 - Our 17th year of using the power of popular music to
produce positive social action.
Since our last Fall Newsletter, we've been busy -- We presented our 9th Annual
Holiday Show on December 3 with a cast and crew of 40. It was a stellar show for
a packed house, as we raised $4,000 for local social service agencies and
provided a great family event for the community. We were able to give sponsored
seats to children from some of the local shelters, and they had a wonderful
time.

On December 11, fifteen members of LUNCH were treated to a limo ride to the Hard
Rock Cafe in Times Square, on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of World
Hunger Year. The Chapin family gave an incredible 3-hour concert, and LUNCH
presented a check for $1,000 to Bill Ayres, Director and Co-Founder of WHY. This
was our 16th consecutive year of contributing to WHY. LUNCH was recognized by
WHY as an innovative grassroots solution to fighting hunger, and we received a
beautiful framed concert poster, signed by all the Chapins and the other
performers.
COMING UP THIS SPRING:
MARCH 25 at East Lyme High School (Rt 161, East Lyme)
A Hunger Awareness Concert, capping off a day-long food and clothing drive.
LUNCH has been working with the school to present this student-run event, to
benefit local social services, like the New London Emergency Shelter, and Care
and Share.
We hope you'll come out to support this important community outreach. The
concert is 7-9pm (pre-show music begins at 6:15). LUNCH will perform its Chapin
repetoire, with some new songs added, and joined by some guest students from the
school. Tickets: $10 at the door, $8 in advance. If you cannot attend but would
like to sponsor seats at $10 each, you may send your sponsorship to LUNCH, PO
Box 511, Mystic CT 06355, or donate securely through the LUNCH website (http://www.lunchensemble.com)
with Visa or Mastercard. Food and clothing may be dropped off at the school
(auditorium) during the day from 11:00am on. When donating food items, please
think in terms of what a 10-year old could prepare for a 5-year old.
APRIL 29 at Groton Bible Chapel, 66 Toll Gate Rd, Groton
Bill, Kay, and select members of the Ensemble join a host of CSA artists to
present the 5th "Day of Praise", a program of spiritual and insiprational songs
from the new CSA Compilation CD "Share the Journey". The concert is 7-9pm and
tickets are $10, to benefit local social services in the Groton area. The CD
features the first release of Kay's song "Blessings".
FEINSTEIN CHALLENGE:
Please help us meet the Feinstein Challenge ! All donations we receive during
the months of March and April qualify for proportional matching from the
Feinstein Foundation. Please help us make the most of this opportunity. Every
week we read in the local news about the ever-increasing need for assistance in
the basic necessities like food and shelter. Help us to work with the many local
agencies who seek to meet these human needs. All contributions to LUNCH are 100%
tax-deductible. You can donate securely from the lunch website (Visa/Mastercard)
or send by mail to LUNCH, PO Box 511, Mystic CT 06355. Together, we can achieve
our three goals:
-- to help support local social services
-- to provide our young people with opportunities to make a difference in the
lives of others
-- to provide quality family-oriented entertainment events that help raise
awareness of these issues
LOOKING AHEAD
UPCOMING RECORDINGS:
Bill and the Ensemble have been working for the last year on the new CD "Dare to
Dream". It is more than half done and should be released late this year. It is a
very large project, so it will be worth the wait. Lots of great new songs.
SUMMER CAMP: We are looking forward to our 11th Summer Music Camp at Camp
Wightman. Last year we had a record number of kids. Between the campers,
counselors and Ensemble there were 60 folks involved in the program ! We also
are greatly looking forward to the new performance space at the camp which was
under construction this year.
FALL: Lots of concert events coming up in the Fall -- we're working on them and
will announce the schedule in September. We expect to be back at the University
of Hartford "Music For a Change" series in the coming season. We're also hoping
to arrange a benefit show for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, which does such
fantastic work in the community. And on December 2, we'll be presenting our 10th
Holiday Show, "Christmas with the Super Heroes"
Also, Bill and Kay will be traveling to present educational programs at music
conferences in Dallas and Philadelphia.
20 YEAR REUNION ? It won't be long before we find ourselves in our 20th year. To
celebrate, we'd like to plan a grand reunion event for anyone who has ever been
part of LUNCH over the years. In order to do this, we'll need to be able to
contact you. Please be sure we have your current e-mail address and let us know
if you're interested in attending. There will be more info posted on the website
as we progress with this. Please let us know if you'd be interested in being
part of this event.
On behalf of the more than 100,000 hungry children in Connecticut, thank you for
caring and we greatly appreciate your support of our community outreach efforts
through music.
We hope to see you at our upcoming events.
