My Smile Is Upside Down Words and Music by Bill Pere

My parents are imperious
They tell me to be serious
Keep my nose up to the grindstone for awhile
So I work real hard and try
Sometimes it makes me cry
Then they tell me I should lighten up, brighten up,
Have some fun and smile...

So I fool around, acting like a clown
Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground...
When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused
They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down

In school I act real studious
But my friends want Howdy Doodyus
So I tell jokes and get them laughing in the aisle
When I settle down and work
My friends call me a jerk
Then they tell me I should lighten up, brighten up,
Have some fun and smile...

So I fool around, acting like a clown
Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground...
When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused
They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down

Whenever there's a choice I try to do the thing that's right
I always thought that everything was simple black and white
With each infusion of confusion I can say
That black and white illusion is a fusion that is gray...

So I fool around, acting like a clown
Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground...
When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused
They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down

Change It! Words and Music by Bill Pere

I really wish the world were spinning in reverse
So life is getting better when it’s really getting worse
And everything that’s wrong is gone and all that’s left is right,
And day is night

I hate the food I get at school, there’s too much work to do
Mystery meat and gruel and on my test, a fifty-two
The same old stuff is on TV and life is just a bore
And my brothers snore!

If you don’t like it Change It! Don’t just take it lying down
If it doesn’t suit you, rearrange it
Don’t stand there complaining, Change It!
If you don’t like it, Change It! Be in charge of your own life
There’s no magic, nothing strange,
If it’s not the way you want it, Change It!

My dog has stinky breath and he’s peeing on the rug
And my cousin Elmo’s coming, Mom will make me give hug
There’s asparagus for dinner but I’d rather have dessert
And my new shoes hurt!

It’s cold outside and Dad will make me wear that awful scarf
With chartreuse color polka-dots that make me want to barf
The cheese fell of my pizza, now my lap has a red spot
And it was hot!

If you don’t like it Change It! Don’t just take it lying down
If it doesn’t suit you, rearrange it
Don’t stand there complaining, Change It!
If you don’t like it, Change It! You can speak up, use your voice
Life has lots of glasses all half empty or half full,
Your choice!

My sister took my underwear and ran it up a tree,
Now I’m full of splinters in places I can’t see
I can’t get anybody to do anything for me
And nothing’s free!

There’s a new zit on my nose and there’s a wart on my big toe
The questions on my science test were things I didn’t know
I wish that I were rich but my allowance is a joke
I’m always broke!

If you don’t like it Change It! Don’t just take it lying down
If it doesn’t suit you, rearrange it
Don't stand there complaining, Change It!

If you don’t like it, Change It! Be in charge of your own life
There’s no magic, nothing strange,
If it’s not the way you want it, Change It!

If you don’t like it, Change It! You can speak up, use your voice
Life has lots of glasses all half empty or half full
Your choice!

Kids Just Wanna Have Fund$ Words and Music by Bill Pere

They want a million dollars to to have some great adventure
On their Christmas list they ask for convertible debentures
They leave me broke, no money for my dentures
Kids just wanna have funds...Kids just wanna have.... funds

Moolah, dollars, greenbacks, rupees, sheckles, lira, francs,
A mark, a yen, a buck, or a pound.....or
(Who is that kid? I don’t know...)

They go to the arcade to live the life nocturnal
With quarters upon quarters to play those games infernal
At dinner I say pass the bread, they pass the Wall Street Journal
Kids just wanna have funds...Kids just wanna have.... funds

Moolah, dollars, greenbacks, pengos, pesos, zloty, kroon
A mark, a yen, a buck, or a pound.....or
(Who is that kid? I don’t know...)

They want a private jet and each day before they fly out
They have imported ice cream and a beverage, then they cry out
“Let’s hit Toys ‘R Us, and do a leveraged buyout!”
Kids just wanna have funds...Kids just wanna have funds

Moolah, dollars, greenbacks, quetzal, colon, krona, baht
A mark, a yen, a buck, or a pound.....or
(Who is that kid? I don’t know...)

They graduate from college with no debt, it’s quite a feat
Enlightening their minds as my savings they deplete
They hand me their diploma and say “Dad, here’s your receipt!”
Kids just wanna have funds...Kids just wanna have funds

Moolah, dollars, greenbacks, guilder, kopeck, drachma, lev
A mark, a yen, a buck, or a pound.....or
(Who is that kid? I don’t know...)

Just a dollar, Just a dollar! (No! No!)
Just a dollar, Just a dollar! (No! No!)
Just a dollar, Just a dollar! (No! No!)
Kids just wanna have funds...Kids just wanna have funds
(There he is! Ask him! Okay wise guy, who are you?)
(The name is Bond... Savings Bond....)

My Best Friend Words and Music by Bill Pere

My sister is my best friend
When I make mistakes, she forgives me
My sister is my best friend
I know we’ll be friends forever to the end...

We were out eating Big Belly Burgers
I made the ketchup squirt on her brand new clothes
She didn’t yell, and she didn’t scream
She smiled when she shoved the bun up my nose...

My brother is my best friend
When I make mistakes, he forgives me
My brother is my best friend
I know we’ll be friends forever to the end...

I know it wasn’t his fault
That he spilled mustard and sugar and salt in my hair
I was happy to bring him a nice ice cube...
When he found the pepper in his underwear...

My sister is my best friend
When I make mistakes, she forgives me
My sister is my best friend
I know we’ll be friends forever to the end...

I didn’t know it was fresh poison ivy
When I gave her those flowers, but her face will soon clear up
That night she helped me pick all the feathers off my back
When somehow my bed got filled with warm maple syrup

My brother is my best friend
When I make mistakes, he forgives me
My brother is my best friend
I know we’ll be friends forever to the end...

I entered his name in a contest
For the “School’s Biggest Nerd” and he won the event.
He was happy to bake me some nice cupcakes
Instead of icing, he used wet cement...

Kyla and the Cupcake
s Words and Music by Bill Pere

Kyla tried to smile a while but couldn’t cause she ate a pile of
cupcakes with cement mixed in the Cool Whip
Kyla’s day had trials mixed in it, seems they came a mile a minute,
but she kept a real stiff upper lip...

She sat there in the yard, they told her life was hard
But she won’t give up, she won’t throw in the towel
She sat in the garden, her lips started to harden...
She wondered, should she throw in a trowel?

Kyla tried to smile a while but couldn’t cause she ate a pile of
cupcakes with cement mixed in the Cool Whip
Kyla’s day had trials mixed in it, seems they came a mile a minute,
but she kept a real stiff upper lip...

A woodpecker up in a tree said nobody pecks like me
He hammered holes like he was demented;
Then Kyla  took her turn, that bird had much to learn,
You can’t compete with lips that are cemented.

Kyla tried to smile a while but couldn’t cause she ate a pile of
cupcakes with cement mixed in the Cool Whip
Kyla’s day had trials mixed in it, seems they came a mile a minute,
but she kept a real stiff upper lip...

I couldn’t believe she ate it; Green olives were things she hated
With slimy, slippery, squishy red pimento
She chomped down with those rocky lips, for the olive it was apocolypse
She said, “Just call me Cemento!”

Kyla tried to smile a while but couldn’t cause she ate a pile of
cupcakes with cement mixed in the Cool Whip
Kyla’s day had trials mixed in it, seems they came a mile a minute,
but she kept a real stiff upper lip...

By the end of the day it was fun when she thought of the things she’d done
She began to hope no one would ever fix her
New games she invented with lips that were cemented,
She said “Let’s go out and get a cement mixer!”

If I Had a Time Machine
Words and Music by Bill Pere
(Hide and Seek)

If I had a time machine,
I'd go back in time and change the scenes
Of the moments that made me want to cry,
Cause Whenever anyone asked me why...
Each time I'd try to speak
All the words would play hide and seek

I always had a place inside
To hold the tears I never cried
Sometimes my life would overload
That place inside me overflowed
Each time I'd try to speak
All the words would play hide and seek

If I revisited a year
I would overcome the fear
Of what a teardrop might reveal
Don't hide the things that you feel...

An hour, a minute, a second chance
To hold the clock to no advance
I would find a way
To say the things I need to say...
So each time I'd try to speak
All the words wouldn't play hide and seek

If I revisited a year
I would overcome the fear
Of what a teardrop might reveal
Don't hide the things that you feel...

Thesaurus Words and Music by Bill Pere

If a kid who’s  six-foot-two wants to rearrange your face
You can use a pointed word to put him in his place
There’s no need for violence when you can break the silence
With a voice that says that you’re a logophile!

If you’re full of great ideas but they never get expressed
It’s hard to change the world with a phrase that’s underdressed
Dinosaurs have teeth, but thesaurus just has truth,
You can get more bite from words than from a tooth

Words.... are the power!
Words.....are the power!

Be a T-Rex not a nervous wreck when you’ve got the right phrase
State your feelings and convictions in a way that will amaze
You couldn’t miss the thunder of those reptiles in a herd
You can make yourself be heard with the right word!

When you’ve got a good thesaurus you thoughts won’t be extinct
The power of persuasion in a package that’s succinct
Dinosaurs were mean but thesaurus just has meaning
Execute your elocution nice and clean

Words.... are the power!
Words.....are the power!

Game Warden Words and Music by Bill Pere

Game warden, is your last tree still alive
Do you remember when the forest used to thrive
And where there once were birds, there are now only dusty skies

Game warden, are the fish all in their grave
I know you tried, but one man could save them
Not when a million other men destroy what nature gave them

Hey Mister Mayor, do you like your pretty city?
Are the rats as nice to look at as the deer and fawn?
Are you happy now that the river is gone?

Hey Mister Mayor, how's the traffic on the highway?
What happened to the songs of the leaves rustlin' in the trees?
Your smoke stacks look a little clumsy swayin' in the breeze

And the Game Warden stands
With a dead bird in his hand
And a tear in his eye...

Rhythms of Our Heart Words and Music by Bill Pere

Every day,
The horizon rings with the rhythm of the sunlight on a cloud
The surf is singing loud,

There’s a ray
Of golden light, it sweeps the sky like the wave of a baton
The orchestra plays on...

All the world’s a sea of sound, we’re members of the band
The creator’s composition, conducted by his hand
We all have a special part, (We all have a special part)
We make life our own work of art, with the rhythms of our heart...

Every night,
The wind and the water wave up to the stars there in the skies
They whisper their replies,

With a light
That chimes as the water’s churning, turning tides that ebb and rise
Each day is a reprise...

All the world’s a sea of sound, we’re members of the band
The creator’s composition, conducted by his hand
We all have a special part, (We all have a special part)
We make life our own work of art, with the rhythms of our heart...

All of Us God’s Children
words and music by Bill Pere
(written for the Special Olympics World Games)

There’s a candle burning inside of each of us
A spark of desire that can set the world aglow...
Telling us, reach higher, reach as far as we can go
When we see it shining in each heart, we know...

That we’re all of us God’s children,
Each have our special place
Try to be the best that we can be...
If we strive to reach and touch stars or just finish the race
We’re all of us God’s children (All of us God’s Children)
We’re all of us God’s children wrapped in one embrace

We each have a path to walk, a hill to climb
When we stand at the summit, we all see the same sun...
We can learn from it, that before a game’s begun
If we’re standing proudly at the start, we’ve won...

And we’re all of us God’s children,
Each have our special place
Try to be the best that we can be...
If we strive to reach and touch stars or just finish the race
We’re all of us God’s children (All of us God’s Children)
We’re all of us God’s children wrapped in one embrace
