Love She Brings My Way  (Track #01)
Words and Music by Bill Pere

Birds in the willow say it’s time to star the day
Sun through the window putting rainbows on display
There’s the sound from the kitchen of the song that she’s singing
And the eggs that she’s cooking
And the love she brings my way….
And I get this feeling…Sun gonna shine all day
I get this feeling… Love gonna come my way….

Walk through the meadow on a sunny autumn day
Trees in the forest putting colors on display
There’s the sound of the whisper of the leaves as they’re waving
And the birds misbehaving
And the love she brings my way
And I get this feeling…Sun gonna shine all day
I get this feeling… Love gonna come my way….

Shadows getting longer, It’s time to end the day
Clouds in the sunset putting colors on disply
There’s the sound of the evening when the peepers are peeping
And my heat keeps beating with the love she brings my way…
And I get this feeling…Sun gonna shine all day
I get this feeling… Love gonna come my way….

That Moment in Time                     (Track #02)
Words and Music by Bill Pere

That moment in time when I first see your smile
I know that I’m gonna stay for awhile
‘Cause I didn’t see that love could be a perfect rhyme
But now there’s you, I owe it to
That one moment in time…

That moment in time when I know love is real
I know that I’m gonna love how I feel
‘Cause I never learned love can turn upon a dime
But now there’s you, I owe it to
That one moment in time…

Just a glance across the floor
I touch your hand,  I want more
Now I know what my life waited for,,,

That moment in time  (outro…)

Coruscate                              (Track #03)
Words and Music by Bill Pere

Coruscate
Shimmering, shining and glimmering
There in your eyes
Coruscate
Ephemeral glow of an emerald
In aurelian skies

I never grow tired
Of the fire in your sapphire eyes
A garnish of garnet
On  your gossamer sighs

Coruscate
Shimmering, shining and glimmering
There in your eyes
Coruscate
Ephemeral glow of an emerald
In aurelian skies

You showered the sunlight
On my obsidian soul
Dispelling the darkness
Making me whole,  Coruscate….

Coruscate
Shimmering, shining and glimmering
There in your eyes
Coruscate
Ephemeral glow of an emerald
In aurelian skies

Let Me Count the Ways           (Track #04)
Words and Music by Bill Pere

How many times have I told you I love you ?
I want that message to fill up your days
How many times have I shown you I love you ?
Just let me count all the ways

Is it a word left unspoken, a walk in the garden
Your hand held in mine,  a promise unbroken
A sigh softly whispered at night while you're dreaming
Just let me count all the ways

How many times have I told you I love you ?
I want that message to fill up your days
How many times have I shown you I love you ?
Just let me count all the ways

Is it a freshly cut flower,  a note on your pillow
An endless embrace in  the daylight's last hour
The calm, the quiet,  or emotions careening
Just let me count all the ways

There's just one thing I want you to see
You can count on me…..

How many times have I shown you I love you ?
Just let me count all the ways

Is it a night on the town or two eggs in the morning
An evening at home with no one around
Or  my song that lives in your eyes as they're gleaming
Just let me count all the ways

Table For Two  (Life’s Café)   (Track #05)
words and music by Bill Pere

Table for two and an empty chair
The course of life is served, but you're not there...
The seat remains reserved as the clock ticks on the wall
Turning winters into spring times and summers into fall

I sit and seek a slice of solace here in life's cafe
Wondering if I'd meet you here someday
In a distant dream I saw your face, the answer to a prayer
Would you come and take this place and fill this chair?

Then suddenly a silhouette is standing in the door
Backlit, with an Aphrodite smile
An answer in your eyes
I asked if you would fill this chair and stay awhile...

Then a brand new conversation and an endless cup of tea
And I knew it, the picture was complete,
The sustenance was tender, the chocolate oh so sweet,
And we'd never sit alone again and face an empty seat...

Table for two, you're with me every day
My cup is filled here in life's café

Land of Me and You       words and music by Bill Pere  (Track #06)

Once I was alone, but that’s a far and distant past it seems
That part of my life is in the dustbin of forgotten dreams
Now you’re by my side, Each day is a ride
Through a land
Of love and wondrous whimsy and…
We share the ups and downs that we’ve been through
In this land of me and you…

Each and every day,  a new scene in an aleatory play
Waiting in the wings,  well-laid plans and unexpected things
With you by my side, Each day is a ride
Through a land
Of love and wondrous whimsy and…
We share the ups and downs that we’ve been through
In this land of me and you…

These Days of Our Lives (Starlight to Rainbows)   (Track #07)
Words and Music by Bill Pere

Starlight to rainbows and shadows that float across the wall
A meadow wakes up Then it sleeps as Springs turn to Fall
And the sidereal circles go round
Ethereal cycles as green turns to brown
And we greet each day  as  it  arrives
These days of our lives…

Bare trees to green leaves,  sylvan scenes that go on…
We wake and we smile and we love from dusk until dawn
And the sidereal circles abound,
Ethereal cycles that always surround us
We greet each day  as   it  arrives
These days of our lives…

Unending crescendo of sounds that surround us, we hear..
Avian chatter and patter of foxes and deer
These are sidereal circles of sound
Ethereal cycles that never slow down
We greet each day as it arrives
These days of our lives…
We greet each day as it arrives

Pictures of You                                (Track #08)
words and Music by Bill Pere

I just was not an artist,
Though many times I'd sit at home and
Try to paint a picture of you
I would always blush ,
I was so awkward with that brush
But I didn't care,
Just as long as there was you

But now I can paint such beautiful pictures of you
Since you've gone away
I couldn't bear the thought of never seeing you again
Memories of you guide the pen in my hand
And every word you spoke  Guides every perfect stroke
As the colors drip down to form your hair...
The colors drip down to form your hair
And your eyes look so real, I can almost feel
The warmth that I knew when you were there...
That I knew when you were there.

The planets shine so bright
through the misty shrouds of night
I see your face in those shimmers of light
I never had imagination,
but I find each constellation
Is replaced  by a vision of you..

And now I can paint such beautiful pictures of you
Since you've gone away
I couldn't bear the thought of never seeing you again
Memories of you haunt everything I do
And every word you said forms pictures in  my head
I see you everywhere I go,
I see you everywhere I go
Your eyes look so real, I can almost feel
The warmth that I knew when you were there....
That I knew when you were there

Six Candles in the Chandlery      (Track #08)
words and Music by Bill Pere

Six Candles in the chandlery, burning in the night
A silver haired old man stands silhouetted in the light
He hears out in the harbor, drifting in across the mist
A chantey being chanted as an anchor starts to lift

As the candles burn down slowly and the anchor is goin’ up
He knows he can’t deny that his boy is growin’ up
There’s a crew out there of fifty; He says a special prayer for one
He asks a safe first journey for his one and only son...

My son, I’ll keep six candles burning in the chandlery each night
And I hope that in your heart, you can forget we had that fight
I know you want to see the world young man, but since your mother died
I confess I’m gettin’ scared of finding no one at my side
The store  is all I have to give you, it’s  everything I own
Remember, take my love with you, let it guide you safe back home

In the sixth week since his son had gone, he felt something was wrong
He couldn’t quite define it, but the feeling was quite strong
If he could see five hundred miles to look in on his lad
He’d see the ship was drifting aimlessly, for the captain had gone mad...

He’d tossed the sextants overboard, the clocks, the compass, gone.
That crew was in for hellfire, as the sunlight brought the dawn
In the captain’s cabin were the ripped up maps and charts
They were hanging on the fine teak walls, with the captain playing darts...

Somehow, that old man knew there was trouble for his son,
He wondered what to do as he lit the candles one by one
He closed his eyes, he clasped his hands without despair
For he’d never underestimate the power od a prayer…

Out there on the ship, they did not know where or how
They saw a light off in the distance as the first mate turned the bow
The ocean surf hissed sibilant as it washed across the deck
The chandler’s son sat in the crow’s nest straining his stiff neck
He watched that misty midnight beacon, that glow off in the sky
But then the spyglass clouded as the teardrops filled his eyes...
For as they sailed in closer, he could see it clear and plain,
It was his own safe hometown harbor... and the chandlery in flame!

As he finally set foot off the ship, he found himself in the embrace
Of a sooty, silver haired old man with ashes on his face...

My son, I kept six candles burning in the chandlery each night
And I hoped that in your heart, you could forget we had that fight
I know you wanted to see the world young man, but since your mother died
I confess I’d been  gettin’ scared of finding no one at my side
That store  was all I had to give you, it was   everything I owned
His son said “Dad, I’;m here to stay now, you’ll never be alone...”

Crest of a Wave              (Track #10)
words and music by Bill Pere

You had salt water in your blood; you longed to be
Another Billy Budd; A sultan of the sea
I longed to be the one to break your fever
But I couldn't have begun to make you leave her
She had more allure than I, so when they signed up a crew
You were first in line; there was nothing I could do
You had to tame the tide; So you signed on.
The sails billowed with your pride, and you were gone...

You said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave
And the water wouldn't keep us apart...
I was blue sky, you were ocean,  the horizon was our heart.
You said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave,
But I wonder, do you think anymore
Of the love-struck, lonely lady you left standing on the shore

It's been almost a year, and I've not heard
In all the thunder of the sea, a single word
I guess you took the sea by storm and you don't need
Someone like me to keep you warm, so I won't plead,
But if your harem is the waves, then what's the good
If they behave as fickle women would?
One day, they'll be kind but the next the they will kill
Though you've cast me from your mind, I love you still.

You said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave
And the water wouldn't keep us apart...
I was blue sky, you were ocean, the horizon was our heart.
You said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave,
But I don't think you think anymore
Of the love-struck, lonely lady you left standing on the shore

Winter finds the ship's yet not returned...
Some fear it was wrecked
When the water churned like a mistress spurned
But it was me who drowned in your neglect...

You're six months overdue; There's no doubt anymore
I say good-bye to you as I walk along the shore
But then I see there in the sand, surrounded by debris
A scrimshaw by your hand, and the image there is me...

And you said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave
And the water wouldn't keep us apart...
I was blue sky, you were ocean,  the horizon was our heart.
You said you'd send me your love on the Crest of a Wave,
But I wonder, do you think anymore
Of the love-struck, lonely lady you left standing on the shore

WINTER’S HARD                       (Track #11)
words and music by Bill Pere

In the early morning hours arranging stones among the flowers
She’d watch him in the garden with her ardent smile
He’s her rock, she’s his petal, lean times tested love and mettle
In this place they chose as home to settle for awhile

(They know)
Winter’s hard, winter’s cold
Seasons pass, we grow old
But the hard times teach us what to hold
Frost melts with the dawn,
We find the strength to go on

Brining water to the flowers, their daughter played for hours
Building rocky towers as they’d watch her grow
They’d cherish every second,  she blossomed and they reckoned
Independence beckoned,  it was time to go

(They know)
Winter’s hard, winter’s cold
Seasons pass, we grow old
But the hard times teach us what to hold
Frost melts with the dawn,
We find the strength to go on

Empty nest, empty pockets,
They feel the pull of each tick-tock
It’s a simple life,  their hearts are full

In the early morning hours arranging flowers around the stone
In the quiet of the graveyard,  he knows he’s not alone
He sings to her a familiar tune, sits with her from dawn till noon
A life well-lived, he knows he’ll see her soon

(He knows)
Winter’s hard, winter’s cold
Seasons pass, we grow old
But the hard times teach us what to hold
Frost melts with the dawn,
We find the strength to go on

Story I'd Tell         (Track #12)
words and music by Bill Pere

I loved you when you were just a gleam in my eye
When you were just a wish , just a sigh
But now you're real
Now you're the game, I'm the team,
You're the rain, I am the mountain stream…
   You're shadow, I'm the light,
   You're the streetlamp, I am the night…

I knew you when you were just a story I'd tell
When you were every carillion bell
That touched my ear
Now you're the druid, I'm the magic spell
You're the water, I am the well
   You're the dryad,  I'm a wooded hill
   You're "forever" , I am " until"…

I saw you, each time that I closed my eyes
Every dream was you in disguise
But now the mask is gone
Now you're the garden, I'm the row
You're the string, I am the bow...
You're the lips, I'm the smile,
You're the distance, I am the mile

One Simple Life              (Track #13)
words and music by Bill Pere

How can one stone change the course of a river”
How can one grain of sand stand apart on the beach?
How can one star matter in a night sky unfurled?
How can one simple life change the world?

What is one drop of rain as it falls in the ocean?
What is one tiny grain in a field full of wheat?
How can one oyster shine in a bed full of pearls?
How can one simple life change the world?

One life touches so many more,
We may wonder “What is it for?”
Nevertheless,  when we all coalesce
There will never be less than before…

One less hungry person cause I did not walk by
One less unseen child cause I did not close my eyes
One less lonely tear cause I decided to care
One life changed, because I was there…

Beautiful Night (Will I Ever Find Her)      (Track #14)
words and music by Bill Pere

Such a beautiful night, it filled us with desire
Having no idea of what was to transpire
And there they were, and I looked at her
As we pulled along side and said
“Would you like to ride with us?
We’ve nothing to do, and neither do you
It’s such a beautiful night..”

Such a beautiful night,
Will I ever find her?
Will I ever find her?
Such a beautiful night,

So off we went to frolic with the night
Though the sky was dark, we bathed in the light
Of waking stars,  of lamp posts and cars
We smiled at the trees, and played with the breeze
Such a beautiful night

Such a beautiful night,
Will I ever find her?
Will I ever find her?
Such a beautiful night,

It was like we’d met before somewhere
We talked like old friends without a care
Loving the irrelevance of all we said
And the breeze made her hair dance  ‘round her head
As we rode along the shore, the city’s silhouette
Completed a picture I never would forget
A blending of nightly elements like I’d never seen before
And the playing of the moonlight on the trees along the shore…

Then they had to go, and on the radio
Was that song, and her name, telling from where she came
And I’ll know where to find her

Now I’ll know where to find her
And I’ll know where to find her
And I’ll know where to find her
Such a beautiful night…

Look at Us Now                   (Track #15)
words and music by Bill Pere

It started out the same, like any other time
The red car drove up to you,  I tried the same old tired line
But you said okay and we drove away
I thought nothing would come of it, but now I say

Look at us now
I don’t know how
But never before have I ever felt as I do now…

Many decades passed, the time goes so fast
Every time I looked at you I knew our love would last
With each remaining day I always find a way
To look at each new morning sun, and I still want to say

Look at us now
I don’t know how
But never before have I ever felt as I do now…

The World We All Share                      (Track #16)
words and Music by Bill Pere

Barren trees and lifeless leaves against the sky
A shade of gray, yet a happy day, I know that I
Will soon be walking down that street I call my own
To blend once more into that world that I call home…

Wild times with the guys, and Katherine’s eyes
The family, the friends, the fun will be there
The cat, the songs, and the world we all share,
The world we all share,  The world we all share

The girl across the river, the once next door,
And one around the corner too
The friend up on the hill,  one next to the forest,
One in the forest green
We’ve all built a world of hope and schemes and dreams
From outside looking in, the whole thing seems unreal

One next door came like the rest but is not like the rest in any way
It started the same, the pathway uncertain,  life changes from day to day
The one in the forest green is the one who’s been there all the while
Helping to shape life and times and fun and song always with a joke or a smile
And so many more like characters in a play
All their color and sounds and songs add so much more to each day

Wild times with the guys, and Katherine’s eyes
The family, the friends, the fun will be there
The cat, the songs, and the world we all share,
The world we all share,  The world we all share

S.H.E. (Simulated Human Empath)             (Track #17)
words and Music by Bill Pere   (from the Rock Opera “Song of Time to Come”)

I  just didn’t see the she stood by me
All of this time,  now I’m beginning to see
That She means more to me than all the dreams that I thought I’d find
It’s She who is gentle and kind

Now I see….
That it’s She who makes all my dreams of beauty be real
It’s She who can touch and can feel what I feel

Now I see….
That it’s me who must tell her what I hadn’t known
Of how my feelings for her have grown

Now I see
What I must do is let her know, so I’ll say ‘I love you’
I love you,   I love you,  I love you…

============================================================
Such a Simple Thing  (CyberHeart)   (Track #18)
words and music by Bill Pere

Why have I been made to hide
All the things that I feel inside?
All the words that lay upon my tongue
Are crying to be said, crying to be sung to you
Though I just wasn't made that way
I know, today, I'll change it all

Because you mean too much to me
You're all I thought I'd never see
In this world of dead existence
You made me live, you made me want to give to you
And that's what living's all about
It's giving yourself selflessly

It's such a simple thing to do, Just three words
I --- Lxxx
Oh, it would make a whole new world for us
If I just can say I—Lxxx    I know I can say I – Lxxx
It's such a simple thing to do
It would mean so much to me and to you

That's what living's all about
Not hiding what we feel, just being real
And then the world will smile upon us
We'll know what love is, we'll know what life is
So just once, let this heart rule the mind and see
The love we can have when our hearts runs free

And we will never want for happiness
We’ll look into each other,  give ourselves to each other
It's such a simple thing to do
And I can do it – I can!
I can say  "I love you too…."

NEW DAY COMES                            (Track #19)
words and music by Bill Pere

New day comes, sun will rise
I open up my eyes
The world unfurls new paths before my feet
New friends to find, new challenges to meet

Each time an unknown path will twist and turn
There are new wondrous things that I can learn
With an open hand and heart it seems
I can follow all my dreams…

New day comes, sun will rise
I open up my eyes
The world unfurls new paths before my feet
New friends to find, new challenges to meet

And when I see each evening’s rising star
I know that I can strive to reach that far
Passing up illusions for what’s real
Wondering what tomorrow will reveal…

New day comes, sun will rise
I open up my eyes
The world unfurls new paths before my feet
New friends to find, new challenges to meet

Up High in the Sky (Poet’s Song)      (Track #20)
words and music by Bill Pere

At least a thousand times I’ve tried to tell you what I feel
But the words won’t come out in any simple phrase
Though I’ve tried a hundred ways,
There are three words I can’t say

Oh I can tell you you’re like the velvet of a twilight sun
But that doesn’t tell you that for me you are the only one
But I know there’s an answer,  It’s on the way
Then you’ll know the things I want to say…

I can write a thousand songs of lyrical tapestry
But every cryptic picture or clandestine thought cannot convey in any way
What I feel for you each day
Though I can’t say the simple words you want to hear,
Even as I write this, I see that the answer is clear
And if you’re wondering how, just listen closely
Starting right now…

Up high    In the sky, and through the air
Is a          Laughing breeze, when you are there
It is         One which tries to make me see
All it’s    Vivid dreams and imagery
It is         Enticing me with the choice of
Having you,   Your youth and your love
Or being    Opulent, powerful, famous and rich
It is       Up to me now to choose which

Then I gave my answer, and the breeze did fade
And if you wish to see the choice I made,
Look at the first letter of the third word in each line
And you’ll see, you’ll see why I am glad that you are mine…

I Wish That You Were Here          (Track #21)
words and music by Bill Pere

I awake and the sunlight shines off the mirror down from the skies
And I rise
A breeze is blowing through the trees,  a swirling world of memories
Behind my eyes
And I wish that you were here
Your hand to reach out and touch me,
Wash away any fear

The winter chill saps the spring in my step, the farthest star starkly represents
What I’ve lost
Bound by logical chains that they say keep me sane,  but it’s all just a game just the same ,
Cold as frost
And I wish that you were here
Your hand to reach out and touch me,
Wash away any fear

But I know there must be someone somewhere for me
If I had a chance to find her… I would find her…

Every day is a journey to try to find the living version of the you in my mind
But it seems
We must all stay in line we must all march in time and we’re all made to be like machines,
My heart screams
And I wish that you were here
Your hand to reach out and touch me,
Wash away any fear

But I know there must be someone somewhere for me
If I had a chance to find her… I would find her…

(Look up, I’m here)      [Is someone there]
(Wash away the fear)  [I don’t know where]
(Can’t you hear me call)   [I need you love…]

Two Days                                      (Track #22)
words and music by Bill Pere

A beaded curtain and a stuffed tiger
All the nights I spent beside her
Watching our favorite TV show
Promising with all my heart that I would never go

    Waterpaint pictures on my wall
And each week, a long-distance call
How happy I’d be to hear her ‘Hello’
Promising with all my heart that I would never go…

Now I’m here and where are you?
You’d often wonder why I do the things I do..
I wonder too,   I wish I knew
   But somewhere there’s an answer
But it’s not what we thought was the way,
   And now, it’s another day…

Now it’s summertime songs that go on forever
And a sunrise smile whenever we’re together
Laughing, crying and the times we share
Sometimes make me wonder if yesterday was really there

Fairytale dreams where queens are taken by pawns
Sylvan scenes that go on and on
And I know this day is here to stay
It’s all I’ve ever dreamed, I’ll never walk away

It seemed my dreams were made to shatter
But now they lift the hopes of those who ride upon my clouds
And the rain is warm,  no more raging storm
   And maybe someday
I’ll know the meaning of all the songs I sing
   What will tomorrow bring?

The Candle                               (Track #23)
words and music by Bill Pere

The flame clings to the candle, as her yawn tries to set it free
She looks and she says “That reminds me of me...”
Nineteen years old, not yet learned how to laugh,
Not yet learned how to cry
She sheds a crystalline tear from the corner of an innocent eye
Punctuated then with sigh
Her question:  “Why am I so shy?”

The flag clings to the flagpole, as the breeze tries to set it free
She looks and she says “That reminds me of me…”
She sees the birds soaring high, and the buildings shake hands with the sky
She doesn’t see such confusion on the faces of those who do things she dare not try
Punctuated then with a sigh
Her question: “I wonder if I should try? “

The leaves fall from the willow, as the frost tears their outstretched fingers free
She looks and she says “That reminds me of me…
A night on the town, not for me, too much to go wrong
Maybe somewhere,  some day, I’ll find a harmony line for my song
But now I think that I understand
I can hold with just one hand…

This is a Song (Six Strings Ring) (Track #24)
words and music by Bill Pere

Hear the six strings ring and the singer sing, singing so strong
Hear the strumming on the wires and the choir is humming along
This is a song

I’ve wanted to do it for so long so I decided to try
But after hours of sitting the words weren’t fitting,
I felt like quitting and I asked myself why

All the things that I felt, I just couldn’t think how they could be said
So instead I went to bed and as I closed my eyes
Suddenly it popped into my head

And I heard the six strings ring and the singer sing, singing so strong
Hear the strumming on the wires and the choir is humming along
This is a song

I jumped out of bed like a helium light-footed child
I grabbed a pen and sat again
Where the stacks of crumpled paper were piled
The words jumped onto the page guided by the light midnight’s full moon
It feels so good to know that on a radio show
Someday soon I might be hearing my tune,

And I’ll hear the six strings ring and the singer sing, singing so strong
Hear the strumming on the wires and the choir is humming along
This is a song

Teach Me How to Fly       (Track #25)
words and music by Bill Pere

When I was just a child, I'd pretend that I had wings
But I played alone, you  had no time to do such things
You would fly round the world, you made a fortune grow
Each time I asked you Dad, you just said "no"

I'd say "Touch me, take me, teach me how to fly
Show me how to reach beyond the sky"

Not quite seventeen, the day I ran away
You just watched me go, never asked once if I'd stay
In the city at night I got off the train
A stranger met me, said he'd ease my pain

I said "Touch me, take me, teach me how to fly
Show me how to reach beyond the sky"

Now my broken wings can't lift these shattered dreams
When you just need love, there's no substitute it seems
In a bottle or bed, it's just empty air
God, if you're listening, won't you hear my prayer

"Touch me, take me, teach me how to fly
Show me how to reach beyond the sky"

Now I see you Dad, crying by the grave
I appreciate the flowers that you gave
As you're turning to leave, I see that backward glance
I wish you'd loved me Dad, when you had the chanc

When We're Together                             (Track #26)
words and music by Bill Pere

Inside, I feel like I'm floating off the ground
It's a ride  on a carousel, spinning 'round
When we're together,
When we're together

The moon is a fireplace burning bright
And the tune we can never sing somehow comes out right
When we're together
When we're together

And each evening sunset
Says the best will come yet
When I hold your hand in mine…

A walk in the park's  like a night on the town
And we talk with the words floating upside down
When we're together
When we're together

There's a light always shining bright in your eyes
And it's right, every moment is always a new surprise
When we're together
When we're together

And each evening sunset
Says the best will come yet
When I hold your hand in mine…

You Can’t Hide Behind Your Smile                    (Track #27)
words and music by Bill Pere

Take a look at yourself, and you’ll see a pretty girl
But the mirror can’t tell how you look to the eyes of the world
Do you really know just what you’re looking for?
Do you know where to look, do you know what to do?
Do you know what to say or will you let it find you?
Have you found it already, or don’t you know?
Is it joy or sorrow that you leave behind you wherever you go?
And you can’t hide behind your smile girl,
No you can’t hide behind your smile,  girl

Then you’ll touch someone else again, with something that you have inside
But they’ll never know what lies deep inside your eyes
And on the breezes of the night, they’ll call our name
And they’ll look for you to understand
They’ll look for you to take their hand
That you have reached out for but have left stranded, crying in the cold
And you can’t hide behind your smile girl,
No you can’t hide behind your smile,  girl

But the night will come when you will realize
That what you’ve been searching for Is right there in front of your eyes
You only have to reach out and touch that hand
And you know you’ll never stand alone
There’ll be laughter and love and how much you’ll have grown
It was there all the time, but how could you have known
As you look back, you’ll see the columns of stone
Crashing down on what you leave behind
And you can’t hide behind your smile girl,
No you can’t hide behind your smile,  girl

The Essence of What I Feel               (Track #28)
words and music by Bill Pere

Every day I turn the page but the story stays the same
A gray and heavy hanging haze, no warmth, no sun, no flame
Through the mist that I was mired in, you inspired a new way
I feel the fire of loving you each day…

And when I hold you near, it’s so exciting
You whisper in my ear, it’s so inviting
Each day you’re in my life, I am re-writing
The essence of what I feel…

No time lost on paths retraced, brighter days ahead
Chasms crossed and all we’ve faced on roads where life has led
The curse of a recursive past is dispersed and drifts away
I feel the fire of loving you each day….

And when I hold you near, it’s so exciting
You whisper in my ear, it’s so inviting
Each day you’re in my life, I am re-writing
The essence of what I feel…

Ever Since You Went Away                      (Track #29)
words and music by Bill Pere

Autumn Leaves are falling all around
They die and flutter to the ground
The wind is singing a mournful song (wind is sad)
The leaves are scattered and blown  (leaves are blown)
Here I sit in solitude,  (here I sit)
Empty and alone (all alone)

Ever since you went away the sun no longer shines
(Ever since you left me)
The birds no longer sing their song, you’re always on my mind
(My life is empty, I’m alone)
I sit alone, recall the pat I remember the fun we had
(Now I’m sad and lonely, I think ‘if only..’)
Now you’re gone my life is cast adrift,  I’m so sad
(If I had known..)

Too late I r3ealized I was blind
You had to leave for me to find
That I was a fool I trusted you implicitly (I’m a fool)
Dazed by your simplicity  (dazed by you)
My eyes just failed to see (failed to see)
What you did to me  (you and me)

Ever since you went away the sun no longer shines
(Ever since you left me)
The birds no longer sing their song, you’re always on my mind
(My life is empty, I’m alone)
I sit alone, recall the pat I remember the fun we had
(Now I’m sad and lonely, I think ‘if only..’)
Now you’re gone my life is cast adrift,  I’m so sad
(If I had known..)

A Life Behind the Lyrics  (Track #30)
words and music by Bill Pere

She stands on the stage and the shaft of the spotlight
Reflects off the smile that hangs from her ears
I sit there awhile and watch and I wonder
Which drops are sweat and which are the tears…

Her songs sometimes take you to the edges of tearfall
At some songs you can’t help but laugh right out loud
She’s a name on a billboard, a shape to the music
But if she’s just a singer, am I just a crowd?

There’s a life behind the lyrics I know
And I wonder how much of herself she lets show
In the river of images that she lets flow
I close my eyes as I search through the maze
For the feelings that hide in the turn of her phrase
And I look for the person that hides in the songs that she plays…
In the songs that she plays

As she sings her songs, her life’s book lies open
But the plotline is veiled in print faded with time
Is it fiction or fact or just flight of fancy
From this person who’s peeking through tangles of rhyme

The evening is aging,  her night’s work is over
That last lilting line of her last song is done
The crowd will remember that she left them smiling
But I wonder what kind of person she becomes

There’s a life behind the lyrics I know
And I wonder how much of herself she lets show
In the river of images that she lets flow
I close my eyes as I search through the maze
For the feelings that hide in the turn of her phrase
And I look for the person that hides in the songs that she plays…
In the songs that she plays

You Don’t Have to be Everything                (Track #31)
Words and Music by Bill Pere & Don Donegan

You don’t have to make the morning sun rise
You don’t have to make the dawn light sing
Just be yourself, cause you do that perfectly
You don’t have to be everything to be everything to me

You don’t have to chase the clouds from stormy skies
Or cry cause you can’t stop the rain they bring
Just be yourself, cause you do that perfectly
You don’t have to be everything to be everything to me

When I fall asleep at night, you are my perfect dream
Someone who makes miracles come true
Dressed in gowns or jeans, You’re my country queen
Makes me wonder if I’m good enough for you…

You don’t have to make each day a new surprise
Or try to make me feel like I’m a king
Just be yourself, cause you do that perfectly
You don’t have to be everything to be everything to me

Peanut Butter Night                (Track #32)
words and music by Bill Pere

Another day is done
I come home, the house is dark
The fireplace is cold
The only embers burning are the shadows in my mind

The living room is still
Your books are on the bookshelf
I've not touched them in a year
Since the day you went away,
Since you left me on my own…

I feel hunger
I wander to the kitchen
The room is dark, the oven cold
Another peanut butter night
And with each bite I dream
Of the banquets that I cooked for you
Of the banquets that you cooked for me

I watch TV
But I cannot hear the words, just the echoes
Of the things that we had said
Conversations of the way we'd make this world a better place
How we reveled in the moments when our world was our embrace

And somewhere
On a star, on a breeze
I hear your voice
Saying “Please find another,  forget me
You can't live in apparitions of the way things used to be
Though I loved you and you loved me
It was never meant to be…"

I feel sleepy
But before I go to bed
Let me say to you my love
No, I'll not search for another
The sun lives all alone but it must rise with each new dawn
I've got my music and my work
And my life will still go on…

I've got my memories
I'll not forget you…

Let It Embrace You                  (Track #33)
words and music by Bill Pere

By the evening firelight, your eyes are trying to see
A secret hiding place somewhere inside of me
Where I keep my love for you, and as the fire warms your hand
You ask how you can trust in something you can’t understand

Well, you can’t touch the wind but you can feel it stroke your hair
You can’t touch a dream, but you know when it is there
You can’t touch the fire, but you can feel its warmth come through
You can’t touch my love but you can let it embrace you…

Like a newborn flower of spring that’s not yet opened wide
Fearing one last winter chill, a part of you still hides
But the coolness of that frost-kissed morn can strengthen you to grow
My love is like that gentle frost, but you ask how you’ll ever know

Well, you can’t touch the wind but you can feel it stroke your hair
You can’t touch a dream, but you know when it is there
You can’t touch the morning cool, but feel the strength to start anew
You can’t touch my love but you can let it embrace you…

The Love We Share           (Track #34)
words and music by Bill Pere

Was it yesterday that I heard you say
"How long will you stay here?  A few days ?  A few years?
Or will it be just a one night stand?
Will you love me like a lover, or just take my hand
And lead me nowhere?"

Will you show me how? Will you show me why?
Will  you help me to answer when I ask "Who am I" ?
I've lived all these years,  But I've not lived a day
It seems that I've let all my life slip away
And leave me nowhere…

Now the time has flown, how our love has grown
Though you may not have known it, I needed you more
Than I've ever said, than I've ever shown
You made me forget I was ever alone…

Our love is all I own
Our love is everything
It's the air I breathe,  It's the songs I sing

In the years from now when our child asks me
Will you help me to answer when he asks who is he,
And we'll show him how,  and we'll show him why
We'll teach him to love, how to laugh, how to cry,

And when we die, there'll be no need for tears
The love we've shared
Will live a thousand years…
